Universal Mental Health Services, LLC is a premier provider of comprehensive mental health and substance abuse services. UMHS is licensed by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS). We have two locations, Newport News, VA and Richmond, VA.​ Our staff consists of certified and licensed mental health and substance abuse professionals.

OUR SERVICES

Intensive In-Home Services

 

(IIH) services are intensive, time limited interventions provided mainly in the residence of the child. Individuals ages 4 to 19 must demonstrate clinical necessity arising from a severe condition due to mental, behavioral, or emotional illness that results in significant functional impairments in major life activities.

Mental Health Skill Building

 

(MHSB) services is a time limited service that provides training and support to help adults aged 18+ achieve and maintain community stability through teaching life skills. These skills include money management, medication management, daily living skills, and how to manage their

mental health symptoms.

Intensive Outpatient Program
(ASAM Level 2.1) 

 

(IOP) services for substance use disorders is a structured treatment program that provides more intensive support than standard outpatient treatment but less restrictive than inpatient or residential programs. Participants attend group sessions where they can share experiences and receive support form both counselors and peers.

DOT SAP Evaluations

 

UMHS provides substance abuse evaluations for employees working in Safety Sensitive positions regulated by the (DOT) Department of Transportation. Our Qualified Substance Abuse Professionals (SAP) are trained to complete evaluations for people working in the field of Truck Driving (CDL) drivers, Oil and Gas, Railroads, and the Aviation Industry.

Therapeutic Mentoring

 

(TM) services is a form of support and guidance provided to individuals, often youth, who are dealing with emotional, behavioral, or mental health challenges. These services are typically offered in a one-on-one setting and aim to help individuals develop essential life skills, build self-esteem, and improve their overall well-being.

Outpatient Therapy Services

 

(OPT) services are delivered in an outpatient setting, such as the therapist office or online (Telehealth). Outpatient therapy can be a valuable option for individuals dealing with a range of mental health issues. Different types of therapy are available, including individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, and couples therapy, providing options tailored to an individual's specific needs.

Sex Offender Treatment Program

Our Sex Offender Treatment Program provides specialized care for both juveniles and adults who have engaged in sexually harmful behaviors. Our program is designed to address the complex needs of individuals who have committed sexual offenses, with a focus on promoting accountability, healing, and positive change. Our team consists of certified sex offender treatment providers.

Anger Management Groups

 

(AMG) Our Anger Management classes are designed to empower individuals in cultivating healthier responses to anger, fostering personal growth, and building stronger interpersonal relationships. Tailored for various needs, our classes are suitable for court-mandated cases, domestic violence situations, and individuals seeking support for road rage incidents or other anger-related challenges.

Substance Abuse Expert (SAE)

 

Our SAE is authorized by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to provide evaluations and recommendations for individuals in the nuclear industry who have been affected by substance abuse. The SAE is authorized to make determinations of fitness for duty in circumstances mandated by regulations.

Yoga Classes

 

Our Yoga classes are designed to cater to all levels, whether you are a seasoned practitioner or just beginning your journey. The session focus on enhancing mental well-being through gentle movement, breath control and meditation. Classes are held every Thursday 6:30pm-7:30pm. Spots are limited so you must sign up each week to reserve your spot.

SMART Recovery Meetings

These meetings are free of charge and open to anyone seeking support in overcoming all types of addictions, including substance abuse, gambling, eating disorders, and more. The program offers practical tools and techniques that individuals can use to take control of their lives and make healthier choices. We believe that offering SMART Recovery meetings will provide valuable support to those in our community struggling with addiction.
